Club Volleyball: A Busy Summer
It appears summer will finally come to the Northwest this week and Kate is busy busy busy with volleyball. A new coach at the high school this year has vowed to bring the program up to par with others, so that, coupled with a move to 3A should help us be more competitive. She let the girls know that everyone is starting from scratch so I hope she goes out and competes like mad. There is a reluctance to compete with her friends and even though I've explained that her friends will have no problem competing with her, she seems hesitant to be anything but deferential to the older setters. Only a sophomore next year, but this is a team that failed to win one match last year, so I believe Coach when she says its an open competition. Go earn a starter spot, Kate. From weekly open gym sessions to a week being coached by a local club coach at the house of one of her Moxie friends, she's staying busy. I love that she is now meeting up with girls on the HS team to go play sand volleyball on Lake Washington. This week she also heads to WWU for a team camp, and the UW camp is coming up fast. I'll have to admit that I'm already looking forward to the school season and moving into Club come December...though I'm not in any hurry for the nice weather to disappear. What are YOUR DD's up to this summer?

FINALLY, the passion has seaped back into your post(s) again! Phew...for a while there I thought you (not Kate, she's a trooper) had hung up your gym rat hat.
ReplyDeleteOur daughter just returned from Nationals and let me tell you...our region is WAY behind! A team that was undefeated in this state got CRUSHED in the Open division--teams running plays straight out of upper D1 play books, effortlessly. It was so fun to see and exciting to know where any of our girls can go with practice and good coaching. Dream big!
Our DD is off toUSC, and a couple other California camps--it will be interesting to see how much differntly they coach.
With hs starting in late August this summer is flying by. Yet, I too, am very excited for hs volleyball to begin and am already putting wagers on who/when/where the club coaches will be assigned.
Have a great summer!

First off yeah for the sun. Sounds like the volleyball coaching around the area is a revolving door this year. Many openings. Hopefully many improvements in some programs.
ReplyDeleteOur DD and 3 friends leave Sunday for a Pepperdine volleyball camp. A little more sun, a little beach volleyball, some indoor and lots of great instruction. Our DD has been to the WWU camp the last 2 years, but this year it fell on the 4th of July. She's also done the UW Camp (she will do UW team camp this year).
Each touch of the ball can contribute to a player's improvement; if they take advantage of the opportunity.
Our daughter's HS plays in the KINGCO 3A as well, so maybe we will see you on the court come fall.
Good luck to Kate this summer and the upcoming HS season.
USC and Pepperdine...go SoCal! Kate and I just spent a week down there visiting friends and we took a drive up to Pepperdine...what a great location. It's funny because I will even admit to a little parent burnout by the end of the year, especially as club and 9th grade were at the same time...but a month later and I'm ready to go! There is NOTHING like seeing your child compete in a sport they love and are good in. Hope all the DD's have great summers and are getting fired up for the upcoming seasons!
